Department of Biological Sciences Undergraduate Students Invited to Membership in Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society
Undergraduate students in the Department of Biological Sciences have been invited to membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, the oldest and most prestigious academic honor society in the United States. They are: Patrick Deegan, Yuleny Gomez Rodriguez, Mckenzie Miller, Rei Rama, Yashushi Yang, Rachel Hayes, and Madison Snyder. Nominees to Phi Beta Kappa must meet several criteria, including GPAs of at least 3.85, broad and deep education in the liberal arts and sciences including coursework in mathematics, and intermediate-level proficiency in a second language. Only ten percent of American colleges and universities have a chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, and only the top ten percent of Juniors and Seniors are nominated. This distinct honor demonstrates not only the students’ own excellence but also the high standards of instruction and mentorship set by Biological Sciences.
